Ian introduces "The Young Dubliners" (opening act for Tull on tour)

The Young Dubliners, or "Young Dubs" as they are known to their fans, are set to play further shows with Jethro Tull during the second and third legs of the US tour schedule this summer. Their new album "Red" is now released and in the shops, featuring many of the songs from their show including the Bernie Taupin penned title track.
Young Dubliners with Jethro TullThe group hail from Southern California where they have built a substantial following in their few years together, selling out thirty consecutive shows at L.A.'s House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. with their Irish-American Celtic rock-based music.

The two Irishmen amongst the band are Keith and Brendan, ex-pats who put the "Dubliners" into the name. The other guys in the band tell us that they put the "young".

An advance copy of the new album was sent to me a few months ago and, along with the dozen or so records which I listen to each week from aspiring support bands, received a dutiful listen between my promo trips for SLOB.

A quick thumbs-up was communicated to our L.A. agents and a few shows were scheduled to see if the musical and personal chemistry would be mutually beneficial. You see, there is no point in an opening act being tied up with a lengthy tour commitment when there is little chance of winning over some of the audience for the headline act and building some record sales and future concert ticket sales from the experience.

Happily, the support from the Tull audience is remarkable and the Young Dubs are Keith & Brendanselling bucket-loads of CD,s and Murphy's Irish Stout for their sponsors of the same name. Now why can't we get a sponsor like that? - Largely because no one in Tull can agree on the beer.

Becks comes close, but the superior Pilsner Urquell and Czech Budweiser do not get the wholehearted approval of the Heinekin-infatuated Giddings.

Any way, Czech out (sorry Andy) the web-site, www.youngdubs.com for all the high and low-down on the Young Dubliners as well as information on the other shows which they are playing, either on their own or with other acts, and listen to the album "Red" at a suitable site on the web or at your local friendly retail outlet.
