Martin (Maart) Allcock Maart
studied double bass from the age of thirteen going on to Huddersfield school
of
music,
before becoming a professional musician in 1976.
After playing various instruments in a number of folk groups, and briefly working as a chef in the Shetland Isles feeding oil workers, he finally took up regular musical employment with one of his favourite bands, Fairport Convention, in 1985. From here he also branched out to the world of rock as the keyboard player (he had two weeks to learn the new instrument) with Jethro Tull. Maart recorded and toured with Tull throughout Western and Eastern Europe and North and South America from 1988 to 1991.
